25.2a Adding Equipment to Your Force
During force construction, equipment is added to your starting force by paying its point
cost. Equipment does not count towards your object limit. You may add any amount of
equipment to your starting force, but all equipment must be able to be legally assigned to
a character. Equipment does not begin the game on the map.

25.2b Assigning Equipment
During force construction, each equipment added to your starting force must be assigned
to a character on your starting force. You may not assign equipment to characters on your
Sideline. If the equipment was added to your force for 0 points due to a qualifying
keyword/name, it must be assigned to a character with the matching qualifying
keyword/name.
When assigning equipment, only standard characters may be assigned. A character can
only have one equipment assigned to it during force construction, even if it may be
equipped with multiple equipment. A character that is assigned an equipment will start
the game with that equipment equipped. Characters that can’t be equipped cannot have
equipment assigned to them.
Yup that's how it works now, pay the points to add it to your force, and then choose a character for it to start equipped, Wizkids has updated the comprehensive rule book if you wanted to see any other changes.
Pym Particles was always a personal favorite piece of equipment that I felt never shone as brightly as I though it should. I suspect part of it is due to its original era, with other team-building options in addition to the clumsiness of the original equipment rules.
I specifically liked using Pym Particles to activate the , because it opened up the number of targets available for close-combat move-and-attack figures. The current (2022) rules have made most terrain a non-issue for characters, but Giant Reach (and improved line-of-fire) will always have a special place in my heart.
Back-in-the-day: I used this with a couple of different high-priced figures with move-and-attack plus Stealth (the 140-point AoU Black Panther comes to mind) simply to make those figures more competitive, but there is no shortage of much lower-priced figures that could use either or to become even more effective.
Found mine. Tonight, See-through John Cena, whom you simply can't see if he hits, had Giant Reach 2 and Great Size. Thus, when he hit someone, you couldn't see him, but you couldn't see the guy behind him due to his size either.
I didn't have to look hard to find mine; they were in my travel play box.
As exciting as the Pym Particles are, upon hearing about the new equipment rules the equipment that my mind first went to was the 4-point Earth X Venom Symbiote, simply because Venompool doesn't have the inherent Shape Change/Plasticity/Breakaway of the subsequent generation of Venomized characters. The SR Venom that brought the Venom Symbiote to the table was IMO an unreliable use of points; there is no shortage of figures that can make better use of that Symbiote.
