Wow, talk about a massive downgrade. Not only are hardly any points shaved off, but this is easily worse in every way than the original figure. I didn't expect a full revamp of the Title Character style card, but this just feels like it totally missed the point. All the wonderful, insane synergy is just gone, and it lacks any meaningful flavour.
Still playable, I guess. But only if you're looking to have some fun and really love the sculpt. 2/5 and that's only because of the incredible sculpt.
Just a cursory glance - EASILY an upgrade. ON ANY MAP with blocking terrain, this guy now gets to use PW FROM 7 SQUARES AWAY. WHO HURT YOU MAN?????? As mentioned before, range has been MEGA scaled back so now characters with anything over 5 are basically snipers.....Only Mr. Odinson here sniped WITH BOMBS. From 7 squares, he can VERY effectively cover 81 (9x9) squares...... I'll ask it again... WHO hurt this guy??
"But fghrt, what if there isn't and blocking terrain??" uh... got a guy with BARRIER??? Go sit back down, Timmy.
Recapping... He snipes with ACTUAL explosions. Your opponents CANNOT use blocking to hide. ANYONE with Barrier becomes this guy's friend IMMEDIATELY.
Yeah, sure. You go ahead an dump 160 points in today's game on a guy that's either a very overcosted HSS attacker, or plinking people with the new Pulse Wave. Again, for over half of your build total. I'm sure he will be pretty fun to play in simple local play, but you are vastly overestimating him if you think I'm being a "Timmy" for calling this out for what it is. His original card gave him the ability to make two attacks a round, summon figures to him and auto heal regardless of agency to enemies, or eventually just shut down an opponents ability to take multiple turns in a row. Contrast that with this new version and it's pretty easy to see why this is something of a let down for those of us thay loved the original piece. He had options, he was strong, ams he could prove to be worth his weight even in a 1v1 match up. "Anything above a 5 range" well guess what, 7 isn't that much bigger than 5. Dropping bombs? He's hardly the only character that can do fun stuff with Pulse Wave. And yeah. His efficacy will largely be based on map roll. Sure that's true if a lot of pieces, but spending 160 on this guy today is suicide in any remotely competitive setting. Have you seen what pieces are getting away with at 50 points? Have you seen the Chases in this very set? I mean, he's not even immune to outwit, or penetrating damage. Thor here is gonna get smoked by any competent player with a half decent team built on the modern structure of the game. No, I'm not impressed. And frankly I know I'm not alone in that. Maybe if his lightning bolt drop worked like the old TDW Chase, and you just chose a square either range to make the Pulse Wave from, but let me tell you from experience, it rarely worked well with him using his printed damage, and it's even more rarely going to make a bit of difference with this guy. Over pointed, under powered, and not a particularly good representation of the original card.
Really awfull legacy treatment. If they just decreased the point cost It would be perfect, but removing all of the other things he did and now giving him a 7 range pulsewave that he can't even do in combination with HSS because it has to be a RANGE :destroy action is just dumb design. I would rather play party thor for 110 less points or prime thor from this set.
