I've found this with a few of the sets recently, especially the Royal Flush Gang. I was given a heads up and are now careful with all of them, cutting the plastic where necessary.

Just took them out, and I was fairly careful as well. Learned that one from Sherlock Holmes's head flying across the room.

Similarly, the Up, Up, and Away Superman has an easy to miss plastic wire around his waist.

Supes is OK.
