I don't know about everyone, but I know there are some people like me who would like to have a campaign system for Heroclix, maybe kinda like an RPG, instead of just playing random battles. Also, if you're like me, you want it to be something that can be played solitaire, since you don't have any friends to be the Game Master.
Now, I've read the campaign system at http://clixkliq.tripod.com/pow/id1.html, and also a forum thread on the subject at http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showth...hreadid=79672. These both have some good ideas, but they just aren't enough. I want some kind of system where I can recreate the career of Batman, or the Gotham Knights, of the JLA, the X-Men, the Avengers, you get the picture. I'm not sure exactly how that would be done, but I know that with seven DC/Marvel sets and an eighth on the way, we have enough characters to create a very exhaustive world in our campaigns.
I say if we put our heads together, and all work on this, give constructive criticisms and maybe try out each other's ideas, and just throw in some brainstorms, we can come up with something really good. And the whole Heroclix community will benefit!
I did write up and post a set of campaign rules for heroclix before. It wasn't a full blown RPG system or anything, but it had rules for gaining XP and upgrading characters as well as purchasing one-time abilities called Perks. My players seemed to enjoy it at the time.
It's pretty much been abandoned by me although I may work on a newer version at some point after my current pet project (something I like to call Advanced Heroclix, although it's more an *alternate* set of rules) is done. Anyway if anyone wants to look at the campaign rules I did, you can get it here:
That's fine, Gabriel, I'll just take it and take the good stuff and hopefully someday incorporate it into some masterful work of Heroclix Campaign art. Likely.
Spinebreaker, if you have any ideas, shoot them on over, and we can start brainstorming.
I am interested in this and will check out all links posted above.
I have started my own campaign for my friend and I, in which you start out with an 80 point team, work your way through linked scenarios, at the end of which you gain more points to upgrade your team. The storytelling and varied scenario goals keep things very fresh. I'll post the campaign rules and scenario here in this thread once I've got the first 6 scenarios done, or so. I have 2 done right now.
I had some Campaign rules for Heroclix myself. But its more of Campaign as in, military terminology. Not as in, RPG style. It's on the articles area here.
Me and my buddies have started our own little RPG style thing to, loosly using the rules from the tripod site, and modifying it to our own use. We also created our own "heroes" to be our team leaders and went to town. We created a bunch of scenarios and linked them in arcs to be mini-stories leading up to the climactic battle. So far it's going well, still all rookies on about the 3rd or 4th mission, but we're fleshing out our teams and gaining xp to go up in levels.
I also came up with a reward system for victories and a loss system for running away or loosing to your archenemy. So far it works out fairly well.
I am actually working on a campaign idea. But this will still abide by all the rules already established by WizKids.
I think a simple story with a series of events - each event success and failure leads to something else would work great.
Most of them are already started in the map packs, rule books, etc.
So, I guess I'm saying my campains would be a series of Scenarios that lead into another.
Something like:
(from Map Pack) NASA ship crashes into city. Scientists are afoot - a villian force arrives to kidnap them. Heroes must stop them.
(from Map Pack) STAR Labs scenario - if the villians capture at least one scientist then the heroes must rescue him. The bad guys will try and get off the board.
(from Map Pack) Assuming the Heroes win - the villians are looking for revenge. Use Avengers Mansion scenario...
You get the idea. One thing I was thinking about using was the REV levels for this - where everyone starts as Rookies. The Victory Points earned would then go into increasing the level of the figures. So each team would be the same in each game - but the first would all be Rookies. Game 2 would have either some new Rookies or some Experienced figs - then later Vets, etc.
Don't know if others would be interested in such a thing - but to me this would be loads of fun.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
It would be a really great idea. I have seen some people do the REV thing, and it seems to work fairly well. I'd be up to try something like this, but I don't really have the people who play around here to do it in person. I think a few people have even done variations on-line. Go for it. If it stinks, just do something else.
BTW-I'm working on some relics to be used in clix, like they have in MK. Webhed got me started, and I'm biulding off of his.
I am almost finished writing a 4 player, 20 game progressive campaign. It's based on team affiliations and starts with a 150 point team and builds toward a 1000 point team at the end. There are some interesting scenarios that I came up with as well as some that I adapted from official Wizkids stuff.
I tried this idea last year and the tough part was getting people to show up on a regular basis. At first we started with 6 people who said they would play, but for the first meeting only 4 showed up. And after that it was tough getting even four people to show up. I think we met three times before calling it quits.
The campaign I came up with could probably be completed in 8-10 meetings, depending on how long you want to play each time.
I'll post it here as soon as I finish it. If anyone wants me to email it to them give me a shout.
- a 'roll-call' : all figures with the necessary TA,
- Allies : Other people affiliated with the teams, Corsair with the X-men, Moondragon with Defenders and Avengers.
Also the teams had 2 special abilities.
All teams had the 'heroic sacrifice' ability. Allowing people to leap in the way of attacks meant for other characters. This was allowed only once per game.
The second ability was more specific. The generic teams had 'unit movement' that allowed figures to move in groups of 3, Avengers were all able to rally round one figure (Avengers ASSEMBLE), X-Men had the Fastball Special and so on.
The campaign was going to centre around a crate containing raw materials and instructions to make adamantium...
1st game - Crate being stolen by Sinister Syndicate type villlains
2nd game - Based around the Weapon-X project.
3rd game - Big fight with SHIELD and hydra.
4th game - MASSIVE battle and the plot thickens, Hydra wanted the Adamantium and some SHIELD files to make some Adamantium sentinels. Sentinels in this Scenario have Impervious until Toughness shows on their dials.
The system would work by increasing through experience levels, but certain characters could be more varied. As long as the point's tallied.
R Hulk - 103 could gain experience and become Mr. Fixit - 104, for instance.
What kind of supreme being would condone such irony?
Spine yours sounds really creative, I like the everyone on the team ability plays and the extra abilities. Haven't had a chance to read the others, but once you guys get one going, I could always play test or something, good ideas guys. Cam
