Remember they recently rewrote some 2099 stories. There was daredevil, and someone called mutant 2099 who worked for Mr. Fantastic's brain in The Things body. Now that would be some hero clix!

most fans of 2099 would be disappointed if the "2099" set went to those posers!
also... DOOM 2099 rocked. Doom and Spider man held down two corners of that whole franchise. now if only the editors and writers could have held down the other two... but bickering is everywhere I guess... case in point: us.
Someone asked earlier if they were sure about Doom being the real Doom... Yes he was. He used his time machine to go to the future, but encountered an unfriendly Latveria. He got into a secret doom stash and hooked himself up with new Armor to fight to get his homeland back. Its been a long time however. I guess Its possible they made allusions to the fact he might not be when the Fantstic clones showed up; but I don't think they ever got around to saying he wasn't the real Doom if they did. As I understand it; and If I remember correctly, nthe 2099 story started up when Doom was in one of his "not around" phases when 2099 launched, but showed up in the 616 universe somewhere halfway through its run. The fan interpretation of that was that he had finished his adventures in 2099 and returned after that point.
Ew. 90's Marvel junk. Sorry, but 2099 sounds like a lot of garbage. "Skullfire"? "Bloodhawk"? Ugh. Reminds me of 50 X-Men titles with crossovers every summer and Liefield drawings just by typing those names.
Yeah, pretty much. It was absolutely dead last on my vote. I would have preferred to assign some kind of negative value to it.
I'll be passing on this set.

Same answer. All that have been made, depending on whether you venue uses retirement.
My venue does, barring the once-a-month Unrestricted events.
And I know it's not the only one.
To say nothing of gaming at a con or an invitational.
How may iterations of the Marvel stable to we really need? Is there anyone who at this point doesn't have all the spider men, wolverines, hulks and daredevils they can reasonably use?
Special thanks to the 2099 fans who screwed us out of boosting the anemic Indy line in favor of figures that would have been included in future Marvel sets anyway.
And for those who complained "I don't even know what Astro City is", now might be the time to pick up a trade paperback so you can fully comprehend just how bad this result sucks.
I beg to differ. I read one Authority trade and was bored to tears.
To each their own I guess. Opinions are like butts, everyone has one. You should give the Authority a little bit more a chance though. I remember thinking at first I was kinda underwhelmed by them, but really started to like the series after that.
As for the sets presented in this poll, I know less than nothing about the Metal Men, so they got dead last on my vote. Then again, not much in the DC universe really appeals to me. My first vote actually went to the Astro City group- compelling story ideas and something different, both good things in my book. Second was BPRD- mostly because while yes, we can use more Hellboy and friends, we have seen some figs for him already, so why not give some other title a chance at some of the limelight as it were. Third place for me was 2099.
The 2099 universe I'm familiar with, sad to say, and really didn't care for it back then, much less now. Last thing I remember was a giant, biblical proportion flood in the 2099 storyline, and how the crossovers had the 2099 characters trying to work together to figure things out. I can't remember if that was about when the series died out or what, but I should have bailed out myself long before that. Especially since I subjected myself to the X-Men (lets jockey who is on the team and who isn't every other issue, aside from the pretty bad writing) and Ghost Rider (aka Max Headroom with a computer hacking fetish and who rides around on a motorcycle) titles in particular. Ugh. I thought I had repressed those memories.
*shudders, and curls up in the fetal position, hoping the bad memories will go away*
on a different note, how are things? Been awhile since I've been around here, as evidenced by my low post count. And when was the trader rating under the user names instituted?
I'm coming into this late because I haven't been hanging around the HC boards for awhile. I was disappointed when I heard that 2099 won. Out of all the options, I thought that was the least interesting one.
But I can understand how 2099 is popular. While I was never a fan (I only ever bought 10 issues of various 2099 books), I've fun across many devoted fan sites. So while I would've prefered seeing Astro City or BPRD, I guess I'll just have to wait a little longer for them.
