If you're curious, he was gaining Super Senses from an adjacent character that shared it as a special power. I had missed that part, so it was very frustrating, but also funny.

the crit hit is a seperate game effect dealing it's own damage on top of the characters. it doesn't alter what the character dealing deals just what the recieving character gets. think of it as the cosmic teabag, and insult to injury as it were.

This is incorrect. A critical hit absolutely, and by its very definition, adds to the damage that the character is dealing.
