Guitar Hero II, Unlockable Content, and Crybabies.
So, apparently some game site no one has ever heard of posted a big, whiny article about how GHII is a rip-off because it advertises 70 songs on the box, but you have to unlock most of them. The argument in the "article" is that this is not fair.
Apparently Tycho at Penny Arcade picked up on this and commented, which of course now makes this some sort of "big news".
Personally, I see the point of this argument on a very, VERY base level. You pay for a game, you should be able to play all of it...right? Right.
That doesn't mean you don't have to EARN it, though. That's the point of a game. You buy it, you play it, you earn things for doing things right. I mean, where would you stop with the aforementioned logic? Should I be able to pop a disc into my console and start with the game finished, all weapons/items unlocked, and all cut-scenes viewable from the start just because I paid for it?
I say no. Play the damn game and unlock the stuff if you want it.
Agreed. My son was happy every time he unlocked a song he knew. Once he got to YYZ he was in seventh heaven!

Yeah I agree to a point. There are those who want to play everything right away, which is why they have cheat codes. But for the most part it's more fun to just unlock everything. I can't wait for my copy to show up here on Monday.
10-2-08 I just put a bunch of stuff on eBay including a numbered Super Skrull Illuminati and a CoG Galactus. Check it out.
but there's a difference imo between having to unlock songs and having to buy more game content online.
i don't have a problem at all unlocking new stuff (levels, songs, costumes, characters, etc.)
but if i buy a game, everything i need should be made available to me on that game disc.
i should never have to go online, and buy new characters or levels.
I think people are quickly becoming the biggest crybabies. I fear for the future of humanity. We seriously need to start working on giving the next generation an attention span greater than 2 seconds or we're all pretty screwed.
Catering to the lowest common denominator since Feb 2003.
agreed... we are raising a culture of whining, me first, victims. That totally think the world revolves around them and only them and nothing is their fault. No body wants to work for anything either... it sucks
