A Finer World Part II (Episode 19):
Earth War Chapter 9: Weirdworld
Are you tired of brawl after brawl without a story behind it? Have you wanted a bit of plot to go along with your Clix related mayhem? Do you want to help create the rosters for superhero teams and supervillain societies? Do you like weirdly fun mashups between different Clix sets? In the Heroclix Roleplayers' Society, decisions like these are yours for the making! So grab your Clix, your dice, and join the HeroClix Roleplayers' Society!
The Heroclix Roleplayers' Society (HRS) is a large scale role playing game where the story is based on games played by the players, and the events are based on the story. Every other week, a new chapter will be posted that does two things.
First, each posting will start with a story update. These updates will advance the plot of the story, update players on the rosters of active teams, and layout the plot behind the next battle. The story will be heavily influenced by the actions of the players that post their results to the HRS threads. While the overall story is planned ahead of time, huge portions of it will be created by you, the players!
Secondly, each post will come with an event for HRS members to play in. These events will be similar to events run by local venues. They will have point values, team restrictions, and/or special rules that are in affect for the game. These events can be run with a friend, or in a tournament setting if your local judge is running HRS events.
After you have completed a HRS event, simply post an after actions report to the HRS thread, and your game will help determine what happens next!
NOTE: While games played in earlier chapters won't count toward canon, new players are always welcome to play older scenarios and post their results.
Now onto Earth War Chapter 9: Weirdworld. (Episode 19 of A Finer World.)
Doctor Strange, the Gray, should have been dead. He certainly expected it, after he faced down Thanos alone, and felt the light go out on his world.
Instead, he woke up in another place. A jungle of sorts. Overhead, dinosaur-like creatures drifted on warm winds. A light rain fell, despite there being not a cloud in the sky.
Maybe I am dead, he thought, wondering if his sacrifice had been in vain, if the heroes he'd gathered had been enough. Or if the alien invasion had destroyed the world he'd tried to save, to set right again.
He went to sit up, but a large hand pushed him back to the ground.
"Wizard," the massive, shirtless tank of a man said, preventing him from sitting upright. "Be silent. I know not from what world you came, but you've arrived at just the right time."
"That, my friend, is debatable. You wouldn't happen to know what world this is, do you?"
The big bloke looked at him curiously, but then nodded.
"People arrive here in Weirdworld from far away lands all the time," the warrior said. "I myself am not from here originally, in truth. But I plan on finding my way home. Or taming it. I'm not sure. But I know one thing: I have a battle to fight before then, and I am in need of a wizard."
"Oh," Strange said. Of course he does. "That's lovely. And here I am, a wizard, right when you need on."
"I know! Strange, isn't it? Or weird."
"Both words are, oddly, completely appropriate," Strange said. "How can I help?"
"Monsters have one of my companions," the man said. "I cannot leave this place without my adventuring party intact. No one is to be left behind, you understand?"
"Completely."
"Good. Good! And my party is, as I said, in dire need of a wizard."
Now others slipped out of the jungle around them. An archer, a female warrior, someone who looked particularly shifty. Oh gods, Strange thought. I'm in one of those games, aren't I.
The warrior helped him to his feet and led him to a ridge. Below, Strange saw an encampment. Central to the camp was a cage, though he could not make out who was inside.
"Our final companion is there. Those monsters have him. And we're going to free him."
"We."
"You're our wizard. Are you not?"
Strange sighed.
"I suppose I am. But If I help you, you must return the favor."
The big man clasped a hand on Strange's shoulder.
"Of course! That is what true companions do! What quest do you have for us?"
"I started a quest to save a world," Strange said. "And I need to go back and finish it. You seem like a mighty lot. Perhaps you'd join me in driving back monsters of my own."
"A great war," the big man said. "Little wizard... I have sought a great war for so long. You will have my weapons at your side, if you help me free my friend."
Point total determined by the players. Recommended: outdoor map, something jungle or forest-y, the more high-fantasy or weird, the better.
Team 1: The Adventurers Construct a team including the following:
Doctor Strange (Gandalf may be substituted)
One mythical bruiser (think Thor, Hercules, Ares, and the like)
One female melee warrior
An archer
A stealthy character
Team 2: The Monsters Construct a team made up of monstrous characters. Include one character as the "chief" (higher point total, with leadership, or who is normally portrayed as a leader in comics) and one as the "shaman" (a magic user or something akin to that). Otherwise, fill out as needed.
Objective: Place the trapped hero (to be decided by the players - anyone mythical or fantasy-based will do) in a designated location in the center of the map. The Adventurers can either smash the lock to free him (one attack - must roll 5-6 on a 6d to smash the lock; if the character has super-strength, 4-6). If a character with stealth does so, they may roll to pick the lock (4-6 to unlock). This character joins team 1, but only on Click 3.
The players may either fight to the death or flee. If the latter, the Adventurers win all living characters return to Team 1's starting zone.
Post your results: Who were your characters?
Who did you rescue?
Did you succeed?
Who lived? Who fell?
The Changers: Stephen Strange: A powerful magician wielding powers not of this world, he leads the Changers as they try to course-correct a timeline where everything has gone wrong. CURRENTLY MISSING, presumed deceased Emma Frost: A powerful psychic who receives signals from other timelines, telling her people to pinpoint who, by altering their actions, can make this world better. Nightwing: Dick Grayson is a constant throughout the multiverse--he is always a paragon of heroism. He represents the optimism the team needs. CURRENTLY MISSING. Can be played as part of another faction, but should not be played with the other Changers this week. Moon Knight: A loose thread in this timeline because of his split personality, Moon Knight represents the member of the team willing to do anything in battle necessary to win. CURRENTLY MISSING. Whereabouts unknown. Lockjaw: A dog. Who teleports. Peter Parker, who was used by SHIELD in this timeline to create spider-powered super soldiers. Courtney Whitmore, the newly anointed Blue Lantern. “No one knows exactly what ‘Weirdworld’ is.” The omniciencent narrator opens as it narrates.
“Some believe it to be where the infamous ‘Bermuda triangle’ leads it’s entrapment of its victims. Others a realm that exist outside time and space.
Or perhaps a sentient realm that has takes away the unwanted and forgotten for its amusement.” She explained.
“But one thing the denizens of this land universally agree upon is that in Weirdworld only the strong, the cunning and the brave can thrive in this savage land.”
“Those that are weak are food for the strong or absorbed into the many tribes of Weirdworld. As several tribes and species form and splinter so to do the savage creatures of this strange land form there own tribes. Like the Lava Men, a race fueled by its burning magma and knowledge of chaos magic lead by Moltar, to its rivals Crystalium a crystallized race of warriors devoted to Order lead by Crystar.“
“Yet some races seek simpler ends where deep within the muddied swamp lands of Weirdworld resides the nomadic sentient plant creatures known as “The Green”. It’s ruler Jennifer Kale seeks to bring peace to Weirdworld through the ways of The Green.”
“While the opposite, the savage dinosaur men and reptilian tribes seek food in their hunger of bloodlust to sate their constantly famished stomachs.”
“But if the tribes don’t kill you perhaps the exotic creatures will, either way good luck.”
