The first She-Ra cycle has been completed. It’s an interesting area wherein most of the antagonists from the show appeared as toys in the MOTU line instead of its own. Mattel basically merged He-Man and Barbie into one product for the PoP toy line with hair and combs alongside swords and shields. Outside of Catra most of the villains from that line had little to no representation in the cartoon. This brings us to today where Mattel split the rights between He-Man and She-Ra characters and their shared history only but alluded to in their respective relaunches. Outside of MOTU: Revelations I’m not the target audience, which is totally fine. Let the new kids in on the secret.
There will be other characters from PoP in later sets (in addition to some form of She-Ra in each) but they won’t be the center of focus as we move through the timeline and toy line.
CON-EXs: DC currently has publishing rights to MOTU/POP and have given us a lot of crossovers in the last decade. Ironically, they held the first publishing rights (outside of mini’s that came with figures) and He-Man’s first appearance is a Superman team-up. The brand went to Star next, a subsidiary of Marvel, but as opposed to GIJoe and Transformers that Marvel licensed and blended with the 616, MOTU remained independent of crossovers until Star eventually folded. Many years ago in an attempt to revitalize He-Man Mattel used its DC license to make 2 packs featuring one DC and a similar themed MOTU character. I took that theme and continued it as if the 2-pack line carried on.
As licensing miniatures is its own niche it would prevent crossovers in a set named MOTU or DC’s _____. A shared license would require equal rep on packaging so making them into Con-Ex is the easiest way to skirt any red tape involved in how much representation goes to who in a full set release. This will also have to be the case for the next batch of them featuring team-ups with the ThunderCats based on the comic (crossover published by DC and originally coincidentally by Star). Whereas WB bought Hanna Barbera and can license them out, most of our beloved 80s franchises remain independent of the big 2 (WB & Disney)
2018 vs 2023: I didn’t think I’d need Legacy cards by the time I completed this monstrosity, in fact they didn’t exist yet when I started. Nu design seems to strictly cap characters at 300 points so these massive builds I intended when designing the beefcakes and colossals may need a revisit. I know it’s an evolving game but the differences are extreme. Maybe I’ll go TheQuestion route and redo the set (my whole MOTU trait is a basic ability for everyone now), legacy card my faves, or just let it stand. The next sets are distinctly time based moving from prehistory to the future followed by niche periods. Considering I’m here 5 years later that in itself is pretty thematic.

Unquestioned Loyalty: Battle Fury, but may still be carried and make range attacks. Palace Protector: Adjacent friendly characters with the Ruler keyword can use Shape Change. Its points are scored immediately instead. Scatter the Clan: Force Blast. When she uses Force Blast opposing characters adjacent to the target are also knocked back.
On Your Feet, Randy: When a friendly character with the Ruler keyword takes damage you may give Man-At-Arms an action token. If you do place Man-At-Arms adjacent to that character and heal it 1 click. Sometimes We Improvise: Charge, Running Shot.
