Targeting: Blocking (Outdoor), Characters Lady of the Lagoon: Mind Control. When she uses Mind Control she may target opposing characters occupying water terrain regardless of range or line of fire. DISGUISE: Evil-Lyn: Shape Change. When Sersi the Siren uses Shape Change on 2-4 you may replace her with a character named Evil-Lyn with an equal or lower point value on the same click number and roll a d6: 5-6) the attacker must choose a different target. This One’s Naive Enough: Force Blast, Plasticity. When Sersi the Siren attacks opposing characters cannot use Battle Fury. Siren’s Song: Incapacitate. When she uses Incapacitate all opposing characters within range and line of fire are targeted.
Significant Appearance: MOTU (200X), S1,E8: Siren’s Song (2002)
TRIVIA: Evil-Lyn used many disguises over the course of the cartoon and other media. It’s implied that Lyn became so powerful by containing her coven within the crystal ball of her staff. Fans theorize that the forms she has taken (live action film excluded) are actually the women she keeps imprisoned within. Since MOTU has a penchant for taking fan speculations and running with it canonically (ie Keldor, past He-Men, blue skin Gar as a race, Skevil-lyn relationship, and more) let’s go ahead and assume when Mattel finally makes these ‘disguise’ figures they’ll have original bios confirming as much.
I wanna echo TheQuestion's earlier comment in that your dial designs are insanely impressive. They show multiple disciplines, experimentation, thoughtfulness, and attention to minute details. Like, good God, I can't be bothered to dial a character more than once. You're getting into mind-blowing hyper-specifics that truly inspire.
HE-MAN was unfortunately just a little bit before my time as a cartoon-watcher. I believe it'd just fallen out of syndication when I was watching G.I. JOE & TRANSFORMERS, so I didn't see an actual He-Man episode until college when I picked up the first season on DVD. Don't think I saw MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE until the last few years. I always think of it and the aforementioned shows as peak product placement cartoons, where pretty much every element on the screen was designed to be plastic. That the show and its characters have been so enduring speaks to just how well they were rented and presented. I liked the live action movie, despite knowing how much it differed from the cartoon. I admittedly struggled with the cartoon, mostly because it didn't have as much sense of import as my then-favorite animated series, THE PIRATES OF DARK WATER, had.
What would you say is the best way to get into the universe? Because your thread has certainly made me curious! Netflix's SHE-RA and HE-MAN? What's your favorite aspect of the franchise?
Either way, I'm excited to learn more through your dials!
^^^
Wow! One hell of a compliment! The hyper specifism comes from the fact that the continuity was carried on far beyond the shows. There are about 10 years of tv but 30+ years of toy releases continuing the narrative. As each toy needs to feel different enough to be worth collecting I felt that same collective spirit when redoing the obligatory character inclusions that sell sets. There are 3-6 mainstays in every big WK release but there are enough variations that each can feel totally unique. It also helps that I’ve spread them out for 5 years so even redialing a character comes with new wording and rules compared to the first time.
Pretty sure I never caught an actual first airing of any episode of Filmation. I rented the Secret of the Sword movie that basically ended MOTU and began POP. Surprising you caught the Hasbro shows that I collectively call ‘The Morals’ cartoons along with Smurfs and this franchise but somehow missed them. Breaking the 4th wall to teach a lesson is so 80s. As far as the TV side the 200X Mike Young Productions is mature enough that it hasn’t aged as poorly but Skeletor is much more menacing than as comedic relief used initially to counteract his horrifying appearance in the original. That series ended rather abruptly though, hence the toy line continuation. Definitely more akin to Pirates of Darkwater (which I also love)
Honestly, I’d steer clear of the Netflix shows outside of Revelations. If you have basic familiarity but little nostalgia that one’s very entertaining. If you’re already emotionally invested it’s…mixed. Outstanding voice talent (Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, Lena Heady as Evil-Lyn, Supergirl’s husband irl as He-Man, and Mark Frickin Hammil as Skeletor) but perhaps a bit too deconstructive to be based on a show that didn’t tend to take itself too seriously. I really liked it but totally understand the divisive tone from the fan base.
The new She-Ra is a far departure from the original. It’s Steven Spielberg going as heavy handed on the inclusivity as possible. Lots of queer coding between Adora and Catra, Bow is gay, body types aren’t cookie cutter, and race swapping all but the main character. Also, legally no reference to He-Man (so weird). It’s a ginormous shot in the arm of girl power, which is great for the kids, but limiting in entertainment value and completely on the nose.
New He-Man on Netflix is suggested age of 5+ and is more akin to the Marvel Kids stuff. If you’ve got kids watch it with them but I wouldn’t pervert my Netflix feed viewing solo.
So yeah, check out Revelations and 200X then come on back and grade my accuracy
Movement: Elevated Venomous Tongue: FREE: Make a range attack that deals no damage. If successful choose one: deal the target 1 penetrating damage and give it an action token -or- place the hit target in an adjacent square. I Ssside With the Ssstrongessst: If a friendly character can use the Evil Horde, Evil Warriors, or Heroic Warriors team ability Tung Lashor can use that team ability as well.
