Licensing has always had the biggest impact on cards. DC had artist residuals that made including them on the back an issue. Some characters require a creators name be included on anything printed. Notoriously, WK almost lost their license completely over Print and Play. A Realmworx dial generator that created dials in a format WK later copied for cards is a lot less litigious in comparison to a site sponsored print and play that… ahem… almost destroyed the game.
It made me sad that the only DC set that had Feats/BFC's with pictures on them was Legacy. And that comic book covers were only on the backs of Marvel character cards; not DC.

My dial this week is based on the sadly oft-forgotten Teen Titans/X-Men crossover, where Darkseid teamed up with the Dark Phoenix. It was a notable moment for both of them, as it's one of the moments that cemented Darkseid as the biggest bad guy in the DCU, and one of the few appearances of Dark Phoenix (as opposed to Jean Grey herself, who has of course come back several times) after the original saga.
There's a couple of ways these two can be thought of as opposites: one representing life, the other representing death. They are at extreme opposite ends of the spectrum between Lawful Evil and Chaotic Evil. And even in the story itself Raven notes that Darkseid is a void of emotions, while Dark Phoenix is emotion in its purest form.
But the reason the prompt made me think of them is that they are, in a way, both counterparts to Barbie and Oppenheimer, though perhaps not in the way you'd expect. Darkseid, like Barbie, is cast out of Paradise for thoughts of darkness and death, and goes on a quest to understand the meaning of unhappiness. Dark Phoenix, like Oppenheimer, started with good intentions, but was consumed with guilt when her actions led to the mass destruction of innocents.

Design notes.
The story goes something like this: Every year the Oak King and the Holly King would battle each other and claim the Earth. The Oak King would Challenge the Holly King in the Winter to take back the light and the Holly King would challenge the Oak King in the Summer to take back the light to bring out the dark so Nature could rest and heal.
Since they are 2 Kings with Opposite tendencies I figured I'd like to see them showing off the basic powers of Nature on somebody else.
(And I miss Battlefield conditions as well.)

Design Notes: Rarely have I been so inspired so quickly. This panel from the Days of Future Present story, told in X-Factor Annual 5, has always stuck with me. As Ahab, a mutant-hunting time traveler that may or may not be Cable has attacked both the FF and the X-Men, Iceman and the Torch meet up, shake hands, and steam. They ultimately combine to blow up Ahab's ship by super-heating and freezing it alternately. I've always loved this panel.

I have several critiques of it, one of the biggest is Probability Control. While yes, it can't work off his coin flips in game, it doesn't suit Two-Face as a character whose psychological issue in Batman comics, is feeling like he has no control over his own fate and relies on chance to decide what to do. And beyond that, the NOT Set Two-Face looks more like they decided to use the coin tosses more as a gimmick in his 50/50 trait, which I don't like either for not being terribly true to him. Oh well, maybe this dial would make a good alternative.

Like many my age, Pee Wee Herman was a childhood icon of mine. Pee Wee's Big Adventure was an aboslutel laugh riot, Pee Wee's Playhouse was a Saturday morning fixture we didn't dare miss, and we all had numerous Pee Wee toys and collectibles (you had the pull string talking Pee Wee too, right?). If you were a kid in the 80s, Pee Wee Herman was a part of your life.
So the news of Paul Reubens' passing yesterday hurt. It didn't take long to try and come up with ways to immortalize him in Heroclix.
I knew for the prompt, I needed both Pee Wee himself and his big league action movie doppelganger, P.W. Herman as portrayed expertly by James Brolin, giving a performance that is playing it completely straight in being one hundred percent Pee Wee's opposite. But the question was which Pee Wee I would dial. Would I try to recreate his arc in Pee Wee's Big Adventure? Or would I go into the Playhouse?
The Playhouse won out, if only because it afforded more opportunities for Heroclix players to behave in a silly manner while playing, which is absolutely key to Pee Wee Herman as a character. He's not without his tactical uses, of course. He's not a fighter, but he is one heck of a supporting player, bounding about the Playhouse with reckless abandon to Perplex, to give his friends a helping hand, to connect the dots on the battlefield to help them make their shots.
I knew I needed to bring The Secret Word and Jambi the Genie in, and make them both absolutely silly but also useful.
P.W. Herman is full on a fighter where Pee Wee is not. He's not very much one for helping his teammates out, as he's a loner, Dottie. A rebel. Maximize his stats by keeping him away from his friends. Having Pee Wee on the field alongside P.W. can increase his mobility, as Pee Wee can call him to the front desk to receive a phone call.
Rest well, Paul Reubens, and thank you for the memories. May you continue to avoid door-to-door salesmen and build your tin foil ball to ever greater magnitudes.

Seraphimon in Digimon lore is the ruler of all angelic Digimon and one of the most powerful creatures in the entire net as a result. In Digimon Adventure:, we're shown that Seraphimon once fought in a great battle and was one of the only survivors. Driven mad with grief and anger, it separated into two halves, one the holy Angemon and the other the evil Devimon. Eventually Angemon would regain its strength and reabsorbed Devimon back into itself, once again achieving the ability to become MagnaAngemon and later Seraphimon. During the final battle of the series when certain death loomed for Seraphimon, Devimon made one final appearance by remanifesting itself as its strongest form, DanDevimon, to protect its good counterpart. With its sacrifice, it helped ensure victory for Seraphimon and its allies.
Seraphimon is one of my favorite Digimon, so I really wanted to come up with a powerful dial but had to be sure I represented that final scene as well since I felt it was such a good culmination of both character's arcs.

My dial this week is based on the sadly oft-forgotten Teen Titans/X-Men crossover, where Darkseid teamed up with the Dark Phoenix. It was a notable moment for both of them, as it's one of the moments that cemented Darkseid as the biggest bad guy in the DCU, and one of the few appearances of Dark Phoenix (as opposed to Jean Grey herself, who has of course come back several times) after the original saga.
There's a couple of ways these two can be thought of as opposites: one representing life, the other representing death. They are at extreme opposite ends of the spectrum between Lawful Evil and Chaotic Evil. And even in the story itself Raven notes that Darkseid is a void of emotions, while Dark Phoenix is emotion in its purest form.
But the reason the prompt made me think of them is that they are, in a way, both counterparts to Barbie and Oppenheimer, though perhaps not in the way you'd expect. Darkseid, like Barbie, is cast out of Paradise for thoughts of darkness and death, and goes on a quest to understand the meaning of unhappiness. Dark Phoenix, like Oppenheimer, started with good intentions, but was consumed with guilt when her actions led to the mass destruction of innocents.

The story goes something like this: Every year the Oak King and the Holly King would battle each other and claim the Earth. The Oak King would Challenge the Holly King in the Winter to take back the light and the Holly King would challenge the Oak King in the Summer to take back the light to bring out the dark so Nature could rest and heal.
Since they are 2 Kings with Opposite tendencies I figured I'd like to see them showing off the basic powers of Nature on somebody else.
(And I miss Battlefield conditions as well.)

What a great way to represent him in clix. Picturing a roomful of people screaming every time the secret word is mentioned makes me laugh. And, I might actually like the over abundance of Probability Control on dials if the user had to quote Jambi before each use. Well done!

Passing on the Legacy: When Starman is KOd, you may place L034 Starman on click 3 and he gains plus 1 stats as long as the character that KO'd him is on the map. If Only In A Dream: Sideline: If a friendly L034 Starman started the game on the map, everytime L034 Starman would clear 2 action tokens put a counter on Starman's card.
