A shadowy organization has targeted Plastic Man in a massive conspiracy! Will they get him under their thumb, or will he bounce back? In this edition of Comic Accurate, it's the Cabal from Plastic Man!
In 2018, Gail Simone reintroduced Plastic Man to the DCU in a miniseries based around Plas trying to solve a mystery. The mystery? Did the JLA kill some of his old buddies in the mob? Spoiler alert: No. They didn't. The whole situation was concocted by a organization of supervillains calling themselves The Cabal. Not the Cabal over in Marvel. A different one: Dr. Psycho, Hugo Strange, Queen Bee, Per Degaton, and Amazo.
Why these figures - Most of the lineup here doesn't have much in the way of alternatives, unless you want to use pre-carded figures, ridiculously over costed, animated versions, or a costume they didn't wear in the issue. It did leave a bit of a point gap that I filled with feats, BUT... The Cabal did forcibly employ a Durlan to go after Plas, so you could alternately use a rookie Chameleon in a pinch. But it would probably be a waste of points.
Tips for running this team - You have a lot of Mind Control here, so be prepared to use that as your main tactic. However, you all might want to keep Queen Bee and Hugo next to one another, have her create a Bee-Drone, then Hugo gives it Charge with his Monster Men Serum SP. So you have an expendable bystander that can use Charge and Blades. You'll also want to keep Per Degaton more than four squares away from Hugo as he seems to shut down even friendly Outwit.
Let us know how The Cabal does for you! Next week, it's a new issue of Unclixed! Then in two weeks, it's another Comic Accurate!
I'm sure DC had the "first" Cabal. I remember a DC villain group of that name, I wanna say pre-crisis, from when Aquaman's redux JLA first moved to Detroit in the 80s. It was a half dozen or so humans enhanced into lame metas by an alien that I don't think have ever been used since.
I'm guessing neither DC or Marvel copyrighted the name? Or maybe Marvel did, but since DC used it first they have limited use of it? Meh, publishing law, gotta love it. If they ever do a DC theme of Cabal in clix form they can join Atlantis, the Outlaws, and the Ravagers for being both DC and Marvel, or even Authority for WWE and DC!
::edit:: Also I do run Dr Psycho and Queenie together on SSoSV squads. Those drones make good MM fodder. I let my my opponent knock Doc down to click two or three and always try to keep a couple drones handy for him.
