I just can't see myself including a team base in one of these games... I feel like that runs counter to the spirit of what we are doing with roleplaying and having fun because that Shi'ar base paired with Lilandra is almost an automatic win in this format.
I agree and endorse this statement.

The Kree and Skrulls agree on something??? Surely this must be the end of days.
I don't know about an auto-win, but it does help them. That said, I think a little meta is going to happen somewhere. The Green Lanterns have the KC Chase and Kyle Rayner handy (though I'm personally looking forward to fielding more Kilowogs and Salaaks and Guy Gardners), the Skrulls have two zombies, the Kree have Supreme Int, and Darkseid has a ton of really awesome figures. The fact that we can all draft figures doesn't hurt either. I'm actually waiting for docsilence to save up enough points so I can play that 3000 point Grand Prize Thanos. Oooh! Wait...save up to 5600 points, and we can play Thanos with Nekron. Now I need to go get a Thanos and Nekron.
A little meta is going to happen, but it's balanced out a little that we're not really in control of our own armies once the fights have been set up. We're more facilitators for side rp battles than player-characters vying for control. Especially since not only can we play our own battles, we can play our "opponent's" battles too. What do you mean that I shouldn't play a 1000 point team of all Indigo Recruits?
Map: Surface of the Moon
Result: Nova Corps wins (lost 242 points) Brainiac looses (lost 1985 points)
"Vanguard advance." Irani Rael ordered from her command post in the rear.
"Irani you coordinate our force from the rear while I, uh..." Richard Rider fumbled for the right term.
"I'll coordinate our force from the rear while you go fun off an be a big hero. Sir." Rael smirked at her commanding officer. The Xandarians would have been lost - were lost - long ago if not for this brash human carrying their torch and reigniting the Xandarian Nova Corps. He was their champion and their chosen one. All of Xandar knew it and loved him for it. But she and Rider both knew she was the tactician of the the corps. They respected each other immensely, largely because they knew their roles well and didn't interfere with each other.
The Nova Corps flew into action, meeting the Clockmaker's forces between Rimbor and designate (0,0,0) on a rogue moon. The polished gleam of their helmets competed with the shined chasses of the Clockmaker's drones for the stars reflected light. "Commander Rael, we have incoming reports from Knowhere! And from Voorl!" Panic evident in his voice, Rael quickly looked at the reports. They were being assaulted at home by the Fearmongers, the Mad Titan and the Kree.
"Cut off communication of outside reports to the battlefield."
"Ma'am?" the corpsman's voice actually cracked.
"They're busy. We can't disengage and the battles will be long over before we could get there. Those worlds are lost, corpsman. Those troops out there have to concentrate on this battle. Success is even more crucial now and I won't have our men distracted by despair. Is that understood?" her voice was cold and collected, as it needed to be. This is why she has this job. "Now cut off outside comms. Let our boys work."
The battle raged on the surface of this unnamed moon. The high mobility of the Clockmaker's drones only served to better position them for the highly synergetic assault of the Corps, thanks to the combined power of the Xandarian Worldmind. They fought as one. As blows were dealt on both sides, Sam Alexander used his special stealth rig to sneak up behind enemy lines and launch a devastating burst (pulse wave). In response, the primary Brainiac unit present powered up.
"Tactical mode depleted. Combat mode initated." it intoned dispassionately.
"Uh, oh. Didn't someone tell the rookie not to hit that thing?" Captain Strange announced over comms while scoring several shots into drones. "Focus fire on Brainiac prime, we can't let him cut into our lines."
"Hey, captain, I've got this." Booster Gold flew right in front of him to take a shot. "Focus fire on Brainiac prime, we can't let him cut into our lines."
Before any shots could connect, Brainiac unleashed a powerful surge of energy that ate into the Nova Corps, seeming to turn the tide of battle. But the following volley of concentrated fire from practically the entire Corps whittled the monstrosity down until Nova Prime himself dealt the final blow.
Firelord's power cosmic disintegrated drones in single shots while Air-Walker's use of it made him a blur on the battlefield, damaging drones all over the moon's surface. Garthan Saal launched an impressive battle with the more powerful General Vision, before finally succumbing to its superior firepower. As all the drones finally fell, a single Ultron unit stood standing until Robbie Rider (gg100 substitute) rocketed like his brother across half the moon to impart his momentum into its chest.
"Great job, brother. Another victory for the Corps!" Nova Prime led his men in a roaring cheer.
"Sir, I have ...bad news." Irani Rael sent on private comms to her commander.

speaking of meta, all that worldmind. my goodness they are a force to be reconned with. I had 22 leadership rolls. 22! who cares if it only works on a 6. and nova prime was attacking every single turn thanks to adjacent recruits.
and if you don't own irani rael, you're doing nova corps wrong. I couldn't count how many times that blanket +1 defense (coupled with denarian pseudo-ss) saved their bacon

I agree as well, actually. I said as much last turn. I won't be using the teambase anymore unless i'm looking at a severe uphill battle on the homefront

yeah, 25 indigo recruits would be way unbalanced. literally they'd lean the map right off the table
joking aside, every team has some dangerous pieces and both players get to set their own agreed meta for each match. homegames ftw

Agreed on that Worldmind with so many Novas... we are beginning night #3 of Novas vs. Clock maker tonight and those traits stack like crazy.
I didn't mean to call anyone out btw, just sharing my opinion on team bases in general.
Just finished the Ungara battle with some friends at our weekly clix meetup, will post momentarily.

We built our Nova Corps team tonight and it is such a random collection of golden helmets I can't wait to see how it plays. Once we ran out of official Novas, we decided to recruit a Nova from as many HRS-based planets as possible. We've got officers from most of the galaxy, even Titan. Probably won't play the match til Friday but we're really psyched for our 0, 0, 0 fight.
Brainiac was routed, but the Sinestro Corps took advantage with a sniper shot on Toren, which led to him being KO'ed by an Ultron Prime that came in the game after the 120pt Mk 1 went down. Prime also managed to KO Boodikka before Genis-Vell and Captain Atlas finished the robots off.
Clockmaker lost 300
GLC lost 245
Kree and Sinestro lost 0

Hey, Salaak got on there! Awesome. Those treacherous Sinestros shot at us? And after you said they were willing to put their differences aside. Tsk tsk.

Graf had KOed one drone and was pushed from shooting another when Bedovian got TK'ed over into range. Hannu attempted to avenge him and landed a shot but couldn't finish him before the Clockmaker's forces were KOed.

I'm a big fan of keeping the Corps spacey. The only earther I've ever deployed for them is guy because he's the general (though it doesn't hurt that he's also the greatest green lantern ever)
The best thing about this chapter is the excuse to play all these great characters and dials that are commonly overlooked. Space stuff ftw

*Booster Gold looks around the room exhausted to tired to pander to the camera and approaches the podium. He was at a press conference to explain his week and a half abscence*
*A reporter stands up and asks sir what are your plans for the Kree Empire*
*He stares thoughtfully at the reporter "I have no longer a want or need to feud with the Kree because I knoe what it's like to try and satisfy a parental figure as my own father has been sick for a tad and for that I have mutual respect for the Kree. That is why im proposing a 2 week ceasefire between the Nova Corps and the fair Kree

Phantom Girl emerged from Ultron's chest in a crackle of disrupted electrical energy just before giant emerald scissors wielded by Guy Gardner sliced the robot in half. "Yahoo! That's how you get it done." The Fist of the Lanterns cried.
Amongst the massive assembled army of Imperial Legionnaires, a glowing green crossbow wisps away to nothingness, sucked back into the green ring on Howard the Duck's feathered finger. "Why'd I even bother coming here? This is ridiculous. Are at least one of you nutjobs named Coffee Lad?"
